Outdoor experiences around the lodge Schlüterhütte
Is it worth staying at the lodge Schlüterhütte for more than one night? It definitely is! Not just because of the South Tyrolean specialties that Marlene and her team bring to the table in the restaurant and sun terrace every day. There are also some beautiful mountain tours and hikes around Villnöss.
Summit Tour Peitlerkofel
For this 4-kilometer route, which is classified as “difficult“, you should be sure-footed and have a head for heights. You leave the lodge Schlüterhütte in an easterly direction, pass the Kreuzkofeljoch and then follow the gentle ups and downs of the Dolomites Altitude Trail to the Peitlerscharte. After a short while, the path begins to climb steeply in serpentines over a meadow. The last stretch to the summit is on an easy via ferrata. If you are not absolutely sure-footed, it is recommended to bring climbing equipment along. The reward at the summit cross at 2,875 meters is a panoramic vista of the Eisack and Gadertal valleys, the Gardenacia Alpine Plateau, and the Villnösser Geisler.
Hiking in Villnöss
the Schlüterhütte as an entry point to the Peitler Round
The trail around the Peitler is considered one of the most beautiful circular hikes in the Dolomites. The moderately difficult tour is 12.5 kilometres long and passes the Würzjoch, the Munt de Fornella Alm, the Peitlerscharte and the Ütia Vaciara Alm. It leads over lush alpine meadows, rugged rocky terrain, and forests. A detour to the Small and/or Big Peitlerkofel is also possible.
Leisure walks…
…on our local mountain Zendleser Kofell
You can reach the Schlüterhütte’s local mountain via the Kreuzkofeljoch on path no. 7 in just 20 minutes. Don’t miss this “leisure walk”: the view from the Zendleser Kofel ( 2,422 meter) over the surrounding Dolomite peaks and down into the Villnöss Valley is truly magnificent.
A demanding tour…
… on the Günther-Messner-Trail
Just a few minutes’ walk from the lodge Schlüterhütte, experienced mountaineers can set off on the challenging Günther Messner Trail. It leads 14.5 kilometres along the jagged ridge of the Aferer Geisler Group. You may expect breathtaking views, climbing passages secured with ropes, unsecured trails, and a ladder. A detour to the Tullen (2,653 meter) is also possible. Surefootedness and a head for heights are essential during this 6.5 hour walk.
